School Photographs

There are two galleries - one for Barkers' Butts and one for Moseley Junior School. There are a couple of photos of Coundon Court in the Barkers Galleries and we really welcome ex-pupils of Coundon Court Community College (as its now called) as we need to build pages for Coundon Court pupils. A volunteer to work on that would be great. All photos are accessible via this page including some amazing 360 interactive panoramas of Moseley which was unfortunately demolished in 2007. The land (we think) given over to housing and a new school built adjacent to the old site. I confess I did manage to procure my old coat hook from Moseley - a small reminder of my younger days.

For 'PC' reasons, the Moseley photos had to be devoid of any children but I think we covered most of the school over two seperate visits in 2007 (Easter & Summer). We are grateful to the school for its understanding and patience whilst we set about recording it to camera. I think the effort was worth it as we now have a permanent record of a site that has now completely gone.

I spoke to many ex-pupils of Moseley on its final Gala day, some of which attended Moseley in the 1930s. The school as a whole treated the day as a celebration of the new one, but many of us (myself included) felt it was also a sad day. As a 48 year old man, it was difficult to explain why the sound of the children singing in the infants hall made me cry.  How many little hands had worn away the brass handles on classroom doors I can only guess.

That said, I had a very enjoyable day alongside classmate Annie Edkins (who like me moved on to Barkers's Butts), wandering up and down corridors that I had traversed as a very young child. Bizarrely, the art store cupboard STILL smelt like it used to all those years ago, filled with powder paint and copydex glue - and that rather took us both by surprise. Few get such a great opportunity to revisit their childhoods. A great day and I still only have fabulous memories of Moseley. It was and is a wonderful school and some wonderful staff members over the years including the great Bob Moreley.

The Barkers' Butts photographs span MANY years (the vast majority from the 1950s) and you may or may not find yourself amongst them but we DESPERATELY need more. Please, please, send us more. School trip photographs are great and we are seriously low on photos from the 60s and 70s. Most of the colour photographs of the school came courtesy of ex-pupils, the colour photos of the school exterior via ex-pupil Trevor Buttle who says he risked much by getting in there to get the shots. In hindsight we are glad he did. If you have any school photos or shots taken on school trips or outings, please scan them and send them in. Most are now marked with a copyright notice to ensure that we get a return link/mention.
